In design or in our everyday life we use colours. We depend on colours  to make choices in buying our daily utility products. So now in design, the designers have tapped into this element to strategically use colours to influence the public mind. Meaning of colours in design is formulated from diverse cultures and social backgrounds of people in this world.

Each colour has negative as well as positive meanings which effect the mood..

 Red : Energy, Enthusiasm, Outgoing, Action oriented, Spontaneous, Rash, War,   Blood,

 Yellow : Happiness, Growth, Wisdom, Knowledge, Focus, Coward, Ego, Caution.

 Blue : Healing, Calmness, Mathematical, Musical, Logical, Passive, Peace, Cold.

 Green : Peace, Environment, Prosperity, Luck, Calculative, Jealousy, Relax,     Health, Cool colours

 Orange : Attraction, Warmth, Appetite, Enthusiasm, Courage, Impatient, Dominant   Energy, Warm colours

 Violet : Spirituality, Royalty, Intuition, Meditation, Third eye, Sensitive, Emotional.

The above set of colours are primary and secondary colours.

Pink    : This colour is derived from mixing white and red. This means friendship, love, harmony, peace with self, playfulness, empathy.                

Brown : This colour is derived from mixing red and black. This colour shows stability, strength, resilience, security, down to earth, safety, endurance.                           

Grey    : This is a colour mixture of black and white. Depressing, neutral, calm,  placid, dispassionate, conservative  

Black   :  Associated with heavy objects, machinery, being diplomatic, glamour, evil, death, perseverance, executive, labour, meticulous.                       

White   : Purity, Freshness, hygiene,  simple, clean, peace.   


Colours in  visual arts are chosen by designers carefully.
