Daily life depicted through art and design.

People have been using visual methods to communicate from prehistoric times. Even before scripts and dialects were invented, prehistoric man have visually depicted their daily life activities in their caves.

Ancient man drew hunting farming, scenes. Looking at these pictures we come to know their life. People always like to express themselves, communicate with others, share ideas. So this method of connecting and sharing feelings became an art. Here words are not used. Dance, music (instrumental) and visual forms were the way one could show their lifestyle.

So art is original. It is self motivated. An individual creates visual form to express or to communicate. Each region in the world have their own distinctive style of art forms. 

As the movement of people around the world increased, visual communication to communicate across different languages also developed. Here we use the term Design. 

Design means a plan to arrange different elements to put across an idea or a message effectively. It could be anything, fashion, structure, advertisements etc.



 

Design Gives Identity

Creating an identity gives following values.

1. Personality: A personality is the visual representation of the values and  of your brand. Proper design sets the tone of your brand, and it can be used to bring out specific feelings in your audience. The brand should be designed to communicate your company's overall message and promote your business goals.

2. Consistency: To bring out consistency in your brand one should use same colour, font, symbols and styles across all materials for examples the stationary, the decor, the files, bags and cups of the company. creating a cohesive branding package.

3. Differentiation: An identity helps you to differentiate your business from the competition and appropriately position your brand. 

4. Awareness: Creating a brand awareness package through logos, advertisements, event, free gifts, ensures that your brand is at the forefront of all your marketing materials. The more places your brand is featured, the more contact it will make with consumers, and the more memorable it will be.

5. Loyalty: A good brand identity helps to build customer loyalty and trust in a brand and it allows customers to make a connection between a product and the company.

So the difference between between and Art and Design according to me.

1) Art is unique. Design is created for a purpose.

2) Art is created by individuals. Design is planned and created with a team of people.

3) Art gives self satisfaction. Design is created for the betterment of lifestyle.

4) Art ( painting, sculpture, music) Is done to beautify a place. Design is also done to beautify a space but it is done on large scale.

5) Art is a skill through which an individual can be self employed. Design is a profession where Designers work with people of different skills to bring out desired result.

6) Art portrays the culture of a place. Through the medium of designers the place gets advertised to the world. Example : Channapatna toys town. It is popular and known for its wooden organic toys through advertisements, travel vloggers and exhibitions.

7) Artist are self motivated they get inspired by nature to create work. Designers brainstorm with other like minded people to get results.

This is a video on Drawing Warli art. This art form is very old. Warli painting is a form of  tribal art. It is created by the tribal people from the North Sahyadri Range in Maharashtra, India.  This tribal art  originated in Maharashtra, where it is still practiced today. This art form uses shapes. Shapes is an element of design. Using simple shapes this art form depicts the daily life  of people living centuries back. In the present day, this art form is now printed on bedspreads, cups mugs, cards and on variety of products.
