How to Become an Animator
Who is an animator
An animator is an artist who brings characters, objects, and scenes to life through the use of cartoons. Caricature of people and object can be hand drawn or digital media is used. An animator can work in creating movies, tv-series, cartoons, video games, and even advertising.
What qualification does an Animator need?
A person aspiring to take animation as profession requires bachelor's degree in computer graphics. Fine arts degree. BMM (Bachelors in Mass Media) DAM ( Diploma in Animation and multi Media).
Skill Development
An animator must constantly practice their drawing skill. Drawing by hand is a must. An animator must also constantly work on upgrading their digital knowledge.
Proficiency in various animation software and tools is required such as Adobe Creative Suite, Autodesk Maya, or Blender, Krita, Flipaclip. One can practice using many apps.
The artist must have an ability to tell stories through pictures.
Different types of Animation
- 2D Animation.
- This traditional form of animation involves creating two-dimensional images and sequencing them to create the illusion of motion. It includes hand-drawn animation, cut-out animation, and digital 2D animation. Example mickey Mouse cartoon created by Walt Disney.
3D Animation.
It is widely used in video games, movies, and visual effects. Software's that can be used are blender, flipaclip, krita, Maya.
- Stop Motion Animation. This animation is created by capturing individual frames of physical objects, puppets, or clay figures, making subtle changes between each frame. When played back in sequence, it gives the impression of movement.
- Claymation.
- It is a type of stop-motion animation where characters and scenes are built using clay or similar materials.
- Puppet animation.
- Puppet animation uses three-dimensional puppets, or figurines that are manipulated by puppeteers or animators to create movement and storytelling.
- Whiteboard Animation:
- Drawing on a whiteboard or blackboard to explain complex concepts or tell a story, often used for educational or instructional videos.
