Career Path as an Interior Designer
1. Interior decorators : Their primary work is to decorate a room aesthetically. They choose colours for the walls, furnitures for the room, flooring carpets , tiles and proper window frames and doors for a room.
2. Assistant Interior Designer: These people do administrative work . They file and document each projects. They communicate with the clients and vendors. Ordering materials, answering phone calls. Arranging meetings with clients and designers. Billing the projects. Managing the budgets.
3. Specialised Interior decorators: These designers specialise themselves in one particular field. Like they will take on projects of decorating residential buildings, some will do offices interiors, industrial floor designs....
4.Youtuber : Interior designers will video themselves on how a projects are taken and how it gets completed. They present their way of work to the world.
5. Professors : They can become teaching professors in design universities and mentor upcoming artists in this profession.
Skill development needed for interior designers
Interior designers must have or develop these skills which will enhance them professionally.
Aesthetic sense: Good colour sense and arranging of furniture to create a pleasing environment for people to live in.
Drawing skills.: The designer must have good drawing skills to create new ideas. If computer is not available, the artist must have the ability to create 3D drawing of the interior freehand.
Communication skill: Must be able to put forth new ideas convincingly across the clients. Must be able to communicate the designs with contactors and other workers to get work done on time.
Research : Complete knowledge on materials that is going to be used in interiors.
Technical skills: Keep updating software's based knowledge related to Designing.
Budgeting : Must have knowledge of costs of resources. Must be able to get good resources like, wood, paints, manpower at effective prices and at the same time Bill the clients reasonably . Also one must have a margin for profits.
Stay inspired.: Follow various blogs related to designing, read magazines, enter local design competitions, attend events and fairs related to designing.
Create projects: Redesign your own house, friends home interiors, local community. Document your style of designing.
