Color classification theory

Colour Classification

In colour theory art, here is a list of colour classification done. Colour classification is done using colour wheel.

Classifications of colours:

Analogous Colour
Analogous colour

The term analogous refers to having analogy, or corresponding to something in particular.  Analogous colours are any three colours placed side by side on the colour wheel. An analogous color scheme creates an appealing, monochromatic look.

Complementary Colours
 Complementary Colours

Two colors that are on opposite sides of the color wheel. This combination provides a high contrast and high impact colour combination – together.

Triadic colour

A triadic colour scheme uses colors that are evenly spaced around the color wheel. Triadic colour harmonies tend to be quite vibrant, even if you use pale or unsaturated versions of your hues. This is forming an equilateral triangle.

Rectangle Tetradic Colours

This colour scheme uses four colours that are arranged into two sets of complementary colours.

The definition for each colour scheme is given. This is very easy to learn.

These colour schemes are used extensively in advertising, interior designing, fashion, accessory designing. Before we go any further into the art aspect we must know that how we perceive colours.

Colour is both science and art.

Colour is science as colours are light rays travel into the eye to the retina located at the back of our eyes. The retina is covered by millions of cells called rods and cones. When these cells detect light the rods and cones then differentiate us to see different colours.

As artists we must know how we see colours, what part of our sense organ perceives light from the environment and  how splits it into many shades.

Here is video , a visual representation of how we see colours.

Colour as art, as using colours effectively can change the emotion of people which in turn a desired action can be ascertained. for this we have to go deeper into color theory and dive into meaning of each colour and how they influence socially, emotionally and culturally.

Conclusion

Classification of colours is important. This classification is like a tool to the designers at a commercial level. Designers use colour combinations to create an ambiance for a given place or select appropriate colour schemes for products to be marketed.
