Creative Process

Creative Process

Creative Process is a step by step analyzing and evolution of how a design is started, how ideas are generated and how it is implemented.

Creative Process
Learning the basics of design elements gives a better knowledge to implement ideas that can be put across people. Ideas can be in the form 3D models, products. paintings, banners, messages.

Creative process and design process is one at the same.

The steps were first articulated by Graham Walls. He is social psychologist and also a cofounder of London School of Economics. He outlined primary stages of creative process in his book  "Art of Thought" in the year 1926.

Each Designer, Artist, Art Directors, Writers have their own method to start a process and they see through till the end until it gets implemented and reach the desired audience. All of them have these traits in common.

The process

1) Identification. In the first process is, the design is to be identified. The designer gets the idea to create or the designer may get commissioned to create a design. It could be anything. Here for example sake we can take a campaign, banner, advertisement or poster designing.

2) Resource analyzing. Next step designer has to work on the resources available. Whether the resource is local or has to be imported. All the logistics has to be mentally worked out.

3) Research. After the work is identified  designer has to do lot of research work. Research related to the culture of the place, the audience to who will receive the work.  The usefulness of the design. Impact on the environment.

4) Preparation. With all the data, information and resource collected, the designer has to now make thumbnails regarding their design project. Thumbnail is a term used by designers, for small image representation of ideas, which can be later presented by combining them to represent a larger idea. Thumbnails are a small set of designs that can be used to improve and generate ideas.

The designers with the set of thumbnails now interact with people of different professional backgrounds to bring their deign to reality. This is called brainstorming. Brainstorming is collective group creativity discussion by people of different profession who gather to complete a given project or a design. The people involved can be from design, media, account, transport or from managerial department. More ideas and inputs are given here.

5) Implementation. The designers creates a model or dummy of the design which was in rough sketches and thumbnail form. The idea now is in three dimensional form or it can be in the digital form. This idea is now presented to client for approval. The client can also suggest some changes which the designers have to comply with. So when client is satisfied with design, the design is finally implemented or produced and is now ready for the public.

Visual Design

The most important aspect of design is visual composition. Visual look and feel defines the success of the design. Everybody sees and then they make conclusion. Here designers have to use their knowledge of elements and principles of design effectively.

To consider yourself to be a good designer, you must have these qualities.

a) Illustration skills. Strong illustrative skills will set you apart from the crowd. Being able to develop ideas and concepts even before you get to the computer greatly helps.

b) Communicative skills. Being able to discuss your ideas, presenting your sketches and thumbnails and explaining them to people of different profession during brainstorming sessions and in meetings effectively.

c) Research skills. Thorough research of design to be created.  Knowing the target audience, availability of resource and knowledge of the logistics involved is essential.

d) Empathy. Empathizing with your client, understanding their needs, including their inputs in the design and also knowing about the end user/ customers.

e)Technical skills. Keeping up to date with new trends. Learning digital skills to enhance your work.

Conclusion:

To bring out products for the use of public, designs have to be useful, appealing, eco friendly and economical. Many minute details are involved in creating a design. A designer has to work with many professionals and at the same time must have a the design skills. So Each designer creat thier own stpe , rital or a process to create designs.
