Mind mapping is a visual design in itself. It helps in seeing the steps taken to achieve goals, short term targets and gives a bigger picture on how one is moving in a company towards fulfilling goals.

Begin with the main concept. Identify the main purpose of your mind map and write it down.
Add branches to the main idea. Now that you have determined the main purpose of your mind map, add branches that will outline the most basic subtopics.
Explore topics by adding more branches.
Add images and colors.
Colours, shapes and lines these basic elements now come to the aid of making a mind map.

Here in the center big circle depicts identification on the topic. Smaller blue circles projecting depict can be assumed as sub headings or steps to be taken, or from the center (head) delegating instructions to subordinates. From the smaller blue circles again smaller green colour circles are projected, again this can be taken work being divided even more. This kind of maps using different colours to code can be used for goal setting, market sales building.

Origins
Know the history of mind mapping.
British author and TV personality Tony Buzan popularized the term “mind map” in the 1970s in his BBC TV series, Use your Head and in his books such as modern mind mapping for smart thinking.
The idea of mind mapping goes further centuries back. Many famous thinkers and innovators throughout history have been noted for organic, curving notes, often including drawings and doodles. These include Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Albert Einstein, Marie Curie, Thomas Edison and Mark Twain.
