Visual Thinking is an expression of ideas and thoughts represented through photographs drawings, pictures and graphs,  It is a very useful tool to work individually and also when working in teams. In teams sharing ideas using images help us to communicate better and more efficiently. This increases group effectiveness also to develop creativity. In a group some understand better with pictures, than words.

Visual thinking is all about learning how to convey complex ideas in a more simple manner by using tools to make those things more clear.

Tools can be pen, paper, knife for sculpting, computers software's.

Result of visual thinking can happen through sketching, creating 3D models and  digital presentations.

A good visual thinker have these following characteristics.

1.  Good flow of image thinking.

2.  Visual thinkers are able to recall past events on the bases of colours shapes,  scenario where event happened.

3.  Visual thinkers have good drawing and model making skills.

4.  Visual thinkers likes jobs where there is lot of creativity and designing is involved.

Visual thinkers are great innovators. To begin with innovations one can try combining two simple objects in the house to create something totally new. You may call it DIY but then this is how new things get invented by trial and error.

Visual Thinking is considered as a tool in many Corporate institution  because:

The human brain thinks better with images. Now if we go back to history, civilizations, the first form of communication was through using images. That is hieroglyph.

We have been drawing  since we were kids. We are very capable of making the basic drawings to represent ideas which in term will improve the communication where words fail.

Seeing visual images we are able to innovate better. Same design created by one person can be improved upon in a brainstorming session to suit the generation we are living in.   One of the example I can give here is the design  of clothes we wear. What people wore  100 years back is quite different now. Even though the materials used are the same.

In the present world, we see lots of signs, symbols icons everywhere. As people are moving around the world more frequently, and language becomes the barrier. So in many airports, railway stations, road signs and directions all have signs indicating toilets, taxi stands, help desk, to name a few.  

Visual communication also is able to represent culture very prominently.

Visual Thinking  term has its origin in 1969, with the publication of the book  “Visual Thinking” written by Rudolf Arnheim. He was a psychologist and physicist from Germany and professor of Psychology of the Art at the University of Harvard.

Visual designers get degree or diplomas in colleges and universities in their respective countries.

Visual Design course includes art forms such as drawing, painting, sculpture, crafts, printmaking, photography ,animation, film, and graphic design are some examples.

Visual thinking students and designers and professionals are more of right brain thinkers.

The brain is divided into left side and right side. 

Right-brain dominance people are expressive and do creative tasks well . Some of the abilities associated with the right side of the brain include: 

Drawing, Good memory, Loves working using colours, Makes a place artistically appealing, Creates music, Appreciates art, Very innovative.

Left-side dominant people are adept at tasks that involves, logic and analytical thinking. Some of the abilities associated with the left side of the brain include: 

Writing, Logic, Critical thinking, Numbers, Reasoning.

Being creative, thinking out of the box, mind mapping are visual thinking strategies.

To become a visual thinker one must have ability to sketch or draw. Images speak louder than words.
Just like any other specialty a designer must also have a routine. 

One must practice their skill everyday.

Keep up to date with current affairs.

Keep the mind calm to get original ideas.

To avoid creative blocks, do physical exercises.

Learn new skills to combine with drawing and sketching. Like photography, printing methods.
