In an Art Design college subjects like painting, drawing, sculpture, graphic design, print making, metal working, ceramics, photography and many more related to creativity and skill based topics are taught. 

It takes four years to get a bachelors degree in an art college. Two more years  for masters degree. Apart from that there are diploma courses also.

In India JJ school of Art (Sir Jamsetjee Jeejeebhoy School of Art)  is the oldest art institution in the country. It is in Mumbai city , Maharashtra State. This institution was established in the year 1878. This comes under Mumbai University.

As of now in India there 223 now has established Government recognised art institutions. Among them top are:
